What then is this “true” freedom? There is a debt that every human has, a disease that we all suffer from, which no human strategy can ever conquer or cure. It is not a bondage to external things primarily, though it does work its way out in external expressions. No, our problem is much deeper.
In this article, we explore what realfreedom means in our lives: physical freedom, health, wealth & lifestyle freedoms, mental and intellectual freedom, the role of discipline, and the necessity of owning consequences.
If “freedom from want” is perceived as truefreedom, then it is but a small step to conclude that individuals, to be trulyfree, must have a “right” to the provision of certain necessities of life, like food, housing, and even some semblance of economic security, however defined.
Thus, truefreedom refers to the maintenance of a balance between individual liberties and collective responsibilities. It requires people to form a society in which societal interests converge with individual desires and have a shared vision for a better future.
The measure of freedom in any society is the degree of inclusion for those who stand on the margins, those who linger on the edge, and those who suffer in silence. Freedom is not achieved by overturning the results of conflict, revising the past, or instilling guilt and shame on the victors.
It’s a freedom that says, “You are now able to do what you were created for—to know God, love Him, and walk in His ways.” It’s the kind of freedom that leads to joy, peace, and lasting transformation.
Truefreedom is not merely external. It is not just the ability to go where we want or do as we please. It is an internal state, a liberation of the mind and soul. To be free within is to be unchained from the fears, expectations, and wounds that keep us bound.
Truefreedom is what happens when you reorient your thoughts to believe—fully and deeply—that you can have personal control over your emotional state regardless of the circumstances unfolding before you.
Too much freedom, without structure or unity, can lead to chaos. Today, I want to explore what truefreedom means and how finding the right balance allows us to fully enjoy it.
