Trump’s policies have sent alarm bells ringing in Europe, with EU leaders meeting in Brussels for an emergency summit last week with a view to massively increase defence spending.

Elon Musk, who holds no official cabinet position in the administration, wrote on social media that he agrees the United States should leave NATO and the United Nations. On Saturday, Musk quote-tweeted “I agree” to a post from someone who wrote, “It’s time to leave NATO and the UN.”

Elon Musk, a senior adviser to United States President Donald Trump, has thrown his weight behind a US exit from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO. Musk made this statement in a post on his X social media platform on Sunday.

Elon Musk’s comments comes at a time when the future of the 32-member NATO, which will mark its 76th anniversary in April, hangs in the balance.

The US President also rebuked Zelensky during a “shouting match” at the Oval Office in front of the media over a peace deal in the Russia-Ukraine war. This fiasco at the White House left the diplomatic relationship between the US and Ukraine in tatters.

Under a 2023 law, a president can’t unilaterally withdraw from the alliance without a two-thirds supermajority in the Senate or an act of Congress.
