It was a defensive slugfest between South Bend Washington and Penn girls basketball Wednesday night in an IHSAA Class 4A sectional opener.

Friday’s girls AHSAA Class 6A-1A sub-regional games and Class 7A area finals set the field — still some games to be played on Saturday — for next week’s regional action. Boys sub-regional games and most Class 7A area finals are scheduled to be played on Saturday.

The IHSAA girls basketball sectional tournament continued on Friday with semifianl rounds across Southwestern Indiana. Most games in the area were decided well before the final buzzer ... there were a few notable exceptions.
