The Pi 4 Model B is the most powerful of the lot, but there are reams of other options. If you don’t need all that power, you can always buy first, second, or third-generation Raspberry Pis.

With all the necessary hardware in hand, I'm ready to try out the new Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, and the latest version of the Raspbian operating system. Here are my experiences so far.

It has enough horsepower to use two 4K displays simultaneously. This 2GB version will perform better compared to previous versions of the Raspberry Pi, though not as well as the Pi 4 4GB model.

Horsepower In terms of sheer power, the Raspberry Pi 4 is a major step up from its predecessor, offering four heavy lifting Cortex-A72 CPU cores compared to the older model’s four Cortex-A53 cores.

As always, the base model, bare board Raspberry Pi is $35, which gets you the board with 1 GB RAM. That part of the Pi 4 remains, remarkably, unchanged.

The Raspberry Pi 4, on the other hand, is the predecessor of the Raspberry Pi 5. It was released in 2019, just a few months before the world shut down due to COVID-19.
