On February 8, 2025, a powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit the Northwestern Caribbean Sea, initiating a Tsunami alert 130 miles southwest of Grand and 20 miles north of Honduras.

While the tsunami warnings were issued for U.S. territories Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, there is no threat to the U.S. Atlantic or Gulf Coast.
