NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Officials rushed to reschedule Mardi Gras celebrations and warned revelers against brining umbrellas and tents as powerful storms with a threat of tornadoes were expected to strike Louisiana and other parts of the South on Tuesday.
Deadly severe storms ripped across the South on Tuesday, unleashing destructive winds and isolated tornadoes. The widespread outbreak generated more than 160 severe weather reports and left hundreds of thousands without power.
The winter storm could impact up to 170 million people across more than 20 states from the southern Plains to the Midwest and East, AccuWeather said.
