Ekofisk was Norway's first producing field and is also one of the largest on the Norwegian continental shelf. The reservoir is Cretacious (chalk) with a 300 meter high oil column. It covers an area of 10x5 kilometers, 3000 meters below sea level. It produces both oil and gas, and production started in 1971.

Ekofisk is an oil field in block 2/4 of the Norwegian sector of the North Sea about 320 km (200 mi) southwest of Stavanger. Discovered in 1969 by Phillips Petroleum Company, [1] it remains one of the most important oil fields in the North Sea.

Aug 24, 2018 · Processing capacity is 240 000 barrels of oil and 8.5 million standard cubic metres of gas per day. In addition, water treatment capacity is 150 000 daily barrels. The platform does not have its own drilling rig, and wells are drilled by a chartered jack-up.

The 8000-tonne topsides for the new wellhead platform has now been installed on the Ekofisk Complex. The platform is scheduled to start production in the 4th quarter of this year. Installation of the platform’s topsides marks an important milestone for the Ekofisk South project.
