Feb 10, 2018 · I like beef, and eland tastes the most beef-like of any animal in Africa, I believe. After that would come kudu and perhaps oryx. If your tastes run more towards North American venison, the likely impala would be near the top. I note that @Tra3 liked zebra. I find the meat so 'sweet' that it's barely edible.

Jul 15, 2023 · Most African wild game are good to eat, as long as it is cooked properly. Some of the best are eland (as long as bulls are not in the rut). Also desert type game like gemsbok and hartebeest are excellent. Sable meat is good also. Of the smaller animals, most are good to eat, particularly reedbuck. Nyala are also good.

Jan 22, 2016 · Of the antelope, springbok and reedbuck are probably tops. Eland and gemsbok taste a lot like beef - pleasant but not especially interesting. The condition of the animal also has a huge impact - old animals shot at the end of winter are usually in poor condition, so the meat is super lean and therefore tends to be dry and tough.

Apr 27, 2015 · My favorite is probably gemsbuck, then eland, kudu and most of the rest. Only thing I have eaten over there that I didn't care for was some springbuck, and gamy warthog. Bushpig was a big surprise, taste just like beef, seriously it does. Zebra looks uber rare even when its fully cooked. Taste s good though.
