Aug 22, 2023 · The gust effect factor is based on global dynamic response to wind gustiness, so I would recommend a single factor based on the global natural frequency of the structure.

Jul 17, 2010 · I checked the gust factor for a rigid structure and I got 0.90, which is higher than the optional 0.85 factor listed at the beginning of the section. I read the commentary, and it states that the rigid gust effect factor should typically be 0 to 10 percent lower than the 0.85 factor. I checked my calcs and the equations seem to be correct.

Oct 15, 2003 · Table 1609.3.1 in the 2003 International Building Code is titled "Equivalent Basic Wind Speeds" and is for converting between fastest mile wind speed and 3-second gust wind speed. The 1.2 factor mentioned by Lutfi seems to work pretty well for a ball park estimate.
