Aug 16, 2010 · Manual steering boxes have a lower gear ratio to help decrease the effort needed to turn the wheel, at the expense of responsiveness. I love having manual steering in my truck due to the simplicity, lack of leaks/broken parts and reduced weight. However it is a PITA when parallel parking. My '88 has a 4 bolt manual steering box.

This is a common swap and can be done pretty easily and its free horsepower. Its a bolt for bolt swap if you find a manual gearbox from another s10 or s15. Have fun!

Dec 17, 2017 · Manual steering was avaliable on earlier 1st gen S10s. All that stuff will swap over to a 2nd gen if you can hunt it down somewhere new or used. I'm unfamiliar with the A body manual boxes.

Mar 19, 2015 · Alright, got my manual box on! ACDELCO Part # 36G0011 Replaced my rag joint with a U-joint simultaneously. Pitman arm was a bear to get off. Lots of hammering, heat, and hitting the puller with the impact and it finally came off. Mounting is exactly the same, but your power steering mounting bolts are M12 and will not fit the manual box.

Oct 30, 2008 · any manual steering s-10 will fit. you'll need the steering arm that's on the box also since it's smaller than the ps one. like specter said, the manual boxes with 3 bolt top cover take 6.5 turns lock-to-lock, other than that they're ok.

May 21, 2010 · This is because the the 70-76 GM power steering cars had a 13/16" shaft and all the manual steering boxes used a 3/4" shaft. As a result a 70-76 power steering coupler won't work, that will need to be changed to a manual steering coupler. Thanks deathphoenix99 for taking the time to post the diagram. Doubledeuce, not sure about the mount holes.

Be ready with a torch, hammer, PB Blaster, et cetera. 2. You may need an alignment afterwards. The steering wheel may end up off center. 3.

Also how the first gen and second gen boxes attach to the steering shaft are different, so the intermeadiate shaft would have to be modifed inorder to connect the first gen box to the second gen shaft.
