My Serra Angel art print hand-signed by the artist Hisashi Momose arrived recently. It is pretty awesome, and way bigger than I expected! There are only 150 total of these, 30 of each art.

May 1, 2021 · Ironically enough, Morphling actually replaced Serra Angel as the finisher of choice for control decks in older formats, basically the progenitors of Vintage and Legacy, Type 1 and 1.5. Funnily enough, Morphling's reign was even shorter than Serra Angel: he was unceremoniously dethroned by Psychatog only 2 years later.

Serra angel: I’m not 100% sure when lost it’s glory. Examples of strictly better angels that were printed are, exalted angel, Baneslayer Angel, and most recently Lyra. Shivan dragon: there have been many dragons printed that had more success than shivan, but I still see people playing shivan regularly, in Commander, and friendly games.

The Serra Angel predates the card type of Planeswalker. Nowadays a 4/4 flying vigilance for 5 mana isn't all that great, but in the original days of Magic, it was one of the most powerful creatures, one of the defining creatures of the format.

Jan 3, 2017 · Began playing Magic in 2005, didn't know a thing about rarity. Man, when I got Serra angel in a pack I was ecstatic. Carried my beginner ass through many friendly duels. I always keep every Serra Angel that I open. I'm sitting around 50 or so of them and I wouldn't sell one for the world.

Times change, obviously, as W was originally in a pretty good state, given how relatively powerful cards like [[White Knight]], [[Savannah Lions]] and good old Serra Angel were in a deck. Now, it clearly has the worst creature pool, by modern standards.
