Do you use sevin dust only when they actually have lice or mites or even just in case they do? Can you just sprinkle it on their back or something & they will get it spread around where it needs to go while preening and/or dustbathing?

Cas, why do you say Permethrin is more effective? Sevin has been used since I was a kid, many decades ago. I just moved back to the farm last summer, and the lice have been present, but not a problem, so I have not treated. I had a sick rooster (droopy) so I caught him to take a look at him. He had a REALLY bad lice load... so I went and found some old Sevin dust in the Garage.

Oct 30, 2012 · We've been using sevin dust since the 60's in our vegetable gardens, on our dogs, and on my chickens for the last 12 years or so. I'm still here typing. I dont recommend eating sevin dust or any other type of dust neither. Use common sense and wear a mask when dusting, the same is true for DE, poultry dust, etc...

May 7, 2020 · I use seven dust. Works fine. I also dust the coop, nest boxes and thier dust bath areas with it. Haven't killed a chicken yet. Periodically I also use ivermectin pour on. I put it in a dropper and use 2 ir 3 drops for little chickens and 3 to 5 drops on big chickens. I also use it in a sprayer for leg mites.

Apr 24, 2012 · I detest sevin dust. I also keep honeybees, and sevin dust is deadly to bees. I do not let it or any pesticide anywhere near my place. I discourage my neighbors from using the stuff though I think my bees are filling their pollen needs on the wild things mostly.
