The Star Model S was a Spanish semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A. and designed to use the .380 ACP cartridge. Like many semi-automatic handguns, the basic design of the Star Model S is based on the .45 calibre Colt 1911.

Throughout the series, both .32 ACP (7.65 mm) and .380 ACP (9 mm Browning Short or 9 mm Corto) versions have been made. In all cases, the base model is in .380, while an "I" suffix denotes a .32 caliber chambering.

First of all, there is simply no such thing as a model SA, or S.A. That is part of the company name, and means "Anonymous Society," (Sociedad Anónima). Kind of like Inc. or Corp. in the US. The right place to find all older Star pistol model numbers is on the butt, as seen in the illustrations below and photo to the right.

Oct 16, 2008 · I have a Star Model S I bought while in USAFSS in Germany in 1966. The Star 380 S was widely used throughout Europe by police forces from the 1930s through the 1960s at least. It was also the personal sidearm for the Spanish Air Force for many years.

Dec 13, 2024 · The Star Model S is essentially a miniaturized 1911, with a tilting barrel and a 1911-style barrel bushing. It’s a single-action, hammer-fired pistol with a manual safety and a slide stop. The left side of the slide has the Star manufacturer’s marks and the caliber, 380.
