Don Freeman (August 11, 1908 – February 1, 1978) was an American painter, printmaker, cartoonist, and an illustrator and writer of children's books. He was active from the 1930s to the 1970s [1] and often used Times Square as the backdrop of his memorable works. [2] Freeman was born in San Diego, California.
