The benefit of the large hole is easy access to the valve in case you need to repair it. For example, my value has 2 screws allowing me to block the water from flowing to the chamber holding the cartridge.

Sep 25, 2020 · Turns out when I have fill valve turned the 45 degrees to lock it, the flushing motion inside rubs on the head of the valve, slowly unlocking it slightly, then the pressure finishes the job over time. I’m going to bend the metal arm a bit so it not longer touches the head the of fill valve. Much easier than I thought.

Apr 1, 2019 · With both the mostly plastic valves and the more expensive brass and stainless models, I have disassembled the valves and been able to clean them. When the valve gets ~8-10 years old the diaphragm needs to be replaced. On the brass ones there are rebuild kits for ~$15. The plastic ones I just replace.
