Yep, AMD and Nvidia engineers are now in an arm's race to have the best AI performance. Amd's stable diffusion performance now with directml and ONNX for example is at the same level of performance of Automatic1111 Nvidia when the 4090 doesn't have the Tensor specific optimizations. 20.76 it/s for 7900xtx on Shark, and 21.04 it/s for A1111.

Jul 25, 2023 · AMD is prepping for AI Inference in video games using game data that will already be in the GPU's ram to allow video game developers to create more intelligent npc's and AI generated game features/mechanics. They are not doing this for FSR. It's also likely why Microsoft has invested heavily in AMD and OpenAI.

Mar 4, 2024 · AMD can also crowdsource compute power, not unlike BOINC and folding@home to work through the petabytes or even exabytes of image data. This would help keep it open-source, as everyone can contribute to training datasets. If AMD funds AI development alone, I have a feeling FSR-AI will be closed-source.

Performance-wise, they *mostly* run ok. If you don't compare then to workloads that can run on Nvidias AI cores. But your locking yourself out of CUDA which means a very large chunk of AI applications just won't work, and I'd rather pull teeth then try …
