Feb 8, 2003 · All Rocky Gibbs cartridges were based on the 30/06 case. You can make your own from the 30/06 or take the 270 or 280 brass, trim the overall length to 06 measurments (about .050" off) run the case in your 7mm Gibbs die to expand the neck from .277" to .284, fire form it and you have 7mm Gibbs brass.

May 5, 2008 · Rocky Gibbs was experimenting with his wildcats just after WW II. The 280 Remington came out in 1957, I believe, although there were several very nearly identical 7mm/06 wildcats that preceeded it. The 7mm Gibbs and the 280 Ackley may LOOK similar (as do several other wildcats) but the two cartridges are NOT the same.

Apr 17, 2008 · Then size back down to 30 cal until it chambers then set your die. There is your headspace for fireforming. If you plan on shooting it quite a bit do the 7mm or the 30 cal. The 240 and 6.5 will be shorter barrel life. The 240 gibbs is a monster in 6mm and is the fastest 6mm in my arsenal. I have some loads over 4300 fps for it.

Jan 4, 2010 · I have the gibbs and the jrs. Both are basically the same performance wise with the difference being the gibbs is based off the '06 case and the jrs off the 280 case. I like the longer 280 case version best with a little longer neck. Both are so close to the 7mm rem mag in performance they will do anything the 7mm rem mag will do.

Mar 1, 2006 · The 7mm gibbs same as the 7mm rem mag, 264 gibbs same as the 264 win mag, 338 gibbs same as the 338 win mag, 240 gibbs faster than 240 wby mag. 30 gibbs equals 300 wsm. The gibbs will be slightly slower in those cases but they are so close you would not notice the difference in a hunting situation.

Apr 7, 2010 · The 7mm gibbs and 7mm JRS are right on the heals of the 7mm rem mag and will do anything the rem mag will do. With the 7mm bullets available the 280 AI is one of the better AI chamberings for hunting.

Oct 3, 2005 · Closer to 100. Freebore rifles are very accurate. I have several wby's that will shoot 1-2" groups at 400 yards. If you are building one I would do the 7mm stw. Wby brass now is just way to expensive. I think the 7mm wsm, 280 AI, 7mm jrs or 7mm gibbs are better choices near the 7mm rem mag velocity range if that is the class you are looking for.

Mar 10, 2010 · The 225 nosler accubond shoots very well in the 338 gibbs and is very near the 338 winmag. The 150 grain e-tips with a .469 bc do very well in the 30 gibbs. I run those in the 3300's. I shoot a variety of bullets in the 7mm jrs and gibbs. the 162 hornady amax does a good job at long range.
