Jan 5, 2012 · North American pine nuts come from the Pinyon Pine (Pinus edulis) and a couple others which all grow in the southwestern states and Mexico. Other countries have species that also produce nuts. They are a pain to harvest. I just use walnuts instead. Michigan doesn't have any pines that produce nuts big enough to bother trying to collect.

Jun 5, 2013 · Is this happening to all your pine trees? Pine cones or others fruits/nuts fall prematurely from lack of water or inadequate pollination. Pine trees have male and female cones. Male cones are smaller and female cones are larger. Once pollinated, female cones grow the seeds. Some of the female cones take up to 12 months to grow mature seeds.

Apr 19, 2016 · In addition these trees don't bear cones/nuts every year. They are hard to cultivate as they don't produce for 12 years or more (much more with some of the other varieties). Good to find 'em and eat 'em not so good to try to grow them. The public doesn't understand that there are many kinds of pine nuts.

Logging is probably a better option and will put money in your pocket. You could cut every other row or cut 1/4-3/4 of it all, depending on your situation and the direction the rows face.

What is the best pesticide to prevent this damage from happening and when should I apply this pesticide? If there are ways to prevent White Pine Weevil damage that do not include using a pesticide, I would welcome that information.

Jan 17, 2019 · I have 2 spots with these planted over 50 Years ago on my property (by my father).. Deer won't browse them here they will eat the scotch pine or jack pine over them.. The nuts are decimated by chipmunks and squirrels as fast as they can ripen and as far as I can see they are ok for them (rodents) they serve no real purpose for deer habitat..
