Dec 26, 2015 · As noted, some sets of angles will cut faster, but dull faster (racing chains versus fire wood chains). Some angles will cut better in different species of wood (soft wood versus hard wood). Even the power of the saw is a factor: a higher powered saw may be able to pull an aggressively filed chain in a way that a more modest powered saw can not.

Oct 16, 2023 · I use a Granberg Jig (following @Philbert's suggestion), and time to set it up for the chain. 1 sometimes 2 normal swipes does it. Dull/damaged chain takes a hard swipe with a Pferd and lighter swipes as needed with the final being a feather-light touch. 4-5 swipes does it.

Jan 30, 2016 · Mounting it on the top of the handle sends the beam into the chain brake handle / flag. The attached photos illustrate these issues on one saw, although, I tried mounting it on a few. So, while this could work with some of my saws, as it does in the manufacturer's videos, I would prefer a 'universal' design that worked with most saws.

Jan 7, 2020 · Take the chain and do a good sharpening with a round file. Then out the chain into some wood. See how it does. See if it self feeds, check the chips and see if they are small or big. Then go from there. If chain needs pressure to cut, then take a couple of swipes off the raker top. Then retest until you get it to where you like it.

Apr 24, 2021 · Obviously you've never ran the chain from the ebay seller "lawnmowerpartsworld" branded as "Saw Chain Expert". I tried 4 loops of it and every one of them had links that froze up and wouldn't move. When you can't get a loop to lay flat or be able to push it down on your grinder you've got big problems and the "cheap" chain becomes unusable.

Manufacturers generally choose what they think the best performing combination of drive sprocket, chain, and bar is for a saw.

It works and my 251C has one. I obtained it from a widow in need of money and whose late husband bought the saw. Three years ago I sold an 025 to a strong lady who loves the saw.
